Position Overview
The State of Minnesota (MNIT), in partnership with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), is seeking an experienced Azure Database Engineer to support the modernization of the Comprehensive Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS). This role will focus on designing, implementing, and supporting Azure databases, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse solutions while consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure environment. The selected candidate will also mentor other Database Engineers and help implement secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud data solutions.

Required Skills
  •  Experience designing, developing, and implementing Azure Data Lakes and relational/non-relational databases 
  •  Strong experience with Azure Databricks
  •  Experience with Oracle Databases
  •  Experience developing data transformation solutions and cloud integrations 
  •  Experience coding and testing data load programs using Azure data load utilities
  •  Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines
  •  Knowledge of cloud computing concepts 
  •  Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Monitor, Azure Resource Manager, Azure CLI/PowerShell, SQL Analytics, and Query Performance Insight
  •  Experience implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions 
  •  Experience with Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), encryption, and network security
  •  Strong organizational and time management skills 
  •  Experience mentoring technical team members 
Preferred Skills
  •  7+ years of Azure database engineering experience 
  •  Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, and Elastic Pools 
  •  Data Lakehouse architecture 
  •  Data modeling, schema design, and indexing strategies 
  •  Data Warehouse Administration 
  •  Teradata Data Warehouse experience 
Key Responsibilities
  •  Design, develop, and maintain Azure relational and non-relational databases. 
  •  Develop and support Azure Data Lakes and Data Lakehouse solutions. 
  •  Build and optimize data transformation processes. 
  •  Implement secure, scalable, and high-performance cloud database solutions. 
  •  Configure backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies. 
  •  Implement RBAC, encryption, and security best practices. 
  •  Optimize data access patterns and database performance. 
  •  Maintain technical documentation and support knowledge transfer. 
  •  Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure and reliable data solutions. 
  •  Mentor Database Engineers and provide technical guidance.
