Job Title: PennDOT - DB2 Database Administrator
Location: Hybrid – Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Duration: 9 months (until 06/30/2026)
Job Description: 

Commonwealth of PA – PennDOT is seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator to design, maintain, and optimize z/OS DB2 Database applications with high availability, performance tuning, and complex SQL coding. This is a hybrid role, requiring onsite presence Wednesday and Thursday at the Keystone Building (400 N St., Harrisburg, PA 17120), with telework Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Local candidates are strongly preferred.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design and maintain DB2 applications for high availability and maximum performance.

  • Support production and test databases in a complex environment.

  • Perform SQL code reviews and DB2 performance tuning at the application level.

  • Enforce DB2 security standards and manage DSNZPARM settings.

  • Create/manage DB2 Stored Procedures, Triggers, and Referential Integrity.

  • Resolve service requests and provide 24x7 on-call support.

  • Provide DB2 Connect configuration support.

  • Collaborate with team members and management to develop project schedules and technical solutions.

  • Implement backup, recovery strategies, and participate in Disaster Recovery planning.


 
Required Qualifications:
 
  • 10+ years of DB2 experience, especially in high transaction environments.

  • Strong expertise with:

    • z/OS DB2 12 for zOS or higher

    • DB2 V10 utilities setup and performance tuning

    • Complex SQL coding and query optimization

    • Data Modeling (logical & physical)

    • Data Warehouse & OLAP design understanding

    • IBM Data Studio, DB2 Administration Tool, DB2 Automation Tool, DB2 Explain, DB2 Query Monitor, IBM OPTIM Workload Query Tuner, IBM File Manager, IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON, QMF

  • z/OS mainframe skills: TSO, ISPF, JCL, DFSORT/ICETOOL, REXX, z/OS Utilities.


 
Desired Skills:
 
  • DB2 V9 or V10 Certification (preferred)

  • IMS Database & Utilities experience (IBM, BMC, NEON, etc.)

  • ETL tools experience (InfoSphere, Informatica, etc.)

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.


 
Additional Information:
 
  • First day requires physical presence at Keystone Building for processing, badging, and equipment pickup.

  • Metered, on-street parking available (candidate responsible for costs).

  • Initial interview will be virtual via Microsoft Teams, followed by in-person onsite interview.

  • Important: Candidate must present valid photo ID and pan room for security during virtual interview.

  • Government equipment use is prohibited outside the U.S.

 
Compensation: $58.00 per hour
